Fashion Friday: A case of Deja Shoe??

August 28, 2009

Deja Shoe!

When I saw these Rampage “Brittany’ boots, I immediately liked them, because they resembled these  Jessica Simpson Yana boots from last winter that I had my eye on.
rampage brittany boot
I tried them on Nordstroms .. and Lord & Taylor but the calf was just a little tighter than I would have liked. I mean, seriously, look at the similarities of these boots

Jessica simpson Yana boot
-both have side zippers
-both have a closure asthetic feature on the back of the opening.  (which I absolutely LOVE)
-both have a slouch feature.

Jessica Simpson’s boot is slightly higher (which is A-OK to me) and fits slightly closer to the knee. I also like that her boot has a more square toe.  But if you did a double glance you’d swear they were the same boot!

Fashion Friday: BOOTS!

On this weeks edition of Fashion Friday I have some boots for you guys. Not too many but just enough to tease you as we go into fall. Let’s start off with these Guess Buster boots (the name amuses me).

I love these boots, I’ve never been really big on Guess shoes. I may just have a thing for brown suede, but either way they are nice to me. They also come in black, but black can be a little BORING!

My favorite accent is the leg warmer material at the top of this 4 inch stacked heel boot. I also like the strap at the top of the calf, In case you’re new to this. I need as much extra calf room as possible since mine are HUGE. Too huge for my little feet!

So, thanks Guess for the Buster Boot.

Sorry, I couldn’t find a bigger and better photo! I’ll have to hit up the local Macy’s for some “live action shots.”

Cleo’s Official Review: Letoya Lady Love

August 25, 2009

I wouldn’t say I was was eagerly awaiting Letoya Luckett’s new cd, but I was looking forward to it. I enjoyed her first CD, and I’m the type who will go back for more if I was satisfied. Her first single, Not Anymore was pretty cool and catchy so I definitely wasn’t led to believe it wouldn’t be satisfying. So here’s the official Cleo review of Letoya Luckett’s Lady Love.

First Listen to this CD I was not thoroughly enthused about it. However,  I pressed on for the sake of research. When I thought of the title “Lady Love” I imagined a different perspective to what is like to be in love. Or someone who is schooling us non-lovers with her love wisdom, but it wasn’t.  Most of these songs were a lot of the same subject matter: either wanting a man .. or the man did you wrong. Not a problem, just not what I expected. Song writing could have been stronger, but in a world where The Dream dominates the charts, sometimes less is more I guess?

Little things mean a lot to me. I wish she had better song titles.  The single words are so blah to me. I know that’s a strange thing, but it just kind of irks me.

So here are my thoughts song by song: I happen to listen to songs on random, not in track order because I think it shows if it can be a stand alone single, so sorry if the tracks aren’t in order :)

She ain’t got: Cursing in r&b always shocks me! LOL. This song is so similar to She Don’t on her debut album that its scary to me. Even a scene in the video is similar. Where she has him on a chair and she dances around him. Deja  vu seriously!  Check out the She Don’t video on Youtube because they all have embedding disabled!

Lazy: I almost abandoned this song while listening to the first verse, but as the chorus came on, I liked it. I enjoyed the melody. Definitely one of the pop songs of the album.

Good To Me: nice production. I would skip this in next listen however. Just not really working for me.

Tears: Enjoy the beat. I wish the song wasn’t titled Tears. It took me a second listen to realize this was a semi-sexy song. the beat is sexier than the actual lyrics.

After Party:  Beat is ok. Lyrics -- eh, just ok. Not one of my favorite songs.

Take Away Love Ft. Estelle : How can you go wrong with the British sensation Estelle. LOVE HER! sounds very Estelle like. Love the song! will be going on a play list. I just haven’t decided which one.

Regret: Yet another GREAT feature. Ludacris does NOT do whack features. I heard this online rip before the album dropped. Loved it. More cursing in R&B! Love it! Love the drums in the production.

Drained: Pop sound definitely. I listened 3 times and still didn’t have an opinion on it. So, I guess that says enough.

Over: I like it, but I don’t love it. Nothing totally original, which is what I would have loved.

Matter: Just ok. not standout if you ask me.

Lady Love: Title Track . It’s nice. Sort of up-tempo. I could drive to this song. I did drive to this song!

Love Roller Coaster: Mims? But why? Not that I have anything against him. Just a shocker feature if you ask me. Tempo is much different that Vivian Green’s rollercoaster. Interesting enough. No strong love or hate for it.

Don’t need u: I like the 2nd verse much more than the 1st. Almost skipped it because of the 1st verse.

Swagger (bonus track?) : This wasn’t on the amazon track listing but it was on my version I heard. I hate hate hate hate HATE the word swagger, swag, swagging or anything like that. I do like her voice on this beat. The guys, not so much. Ixnay on the swagger.

Overall, I would recommend listening to this album. It was easy on the ears and its much better than some R&B out there. When I checked Amazon.com the reviews that were there were all positive, so definitely check it out for yourself.

Walmart only selling Whitney Houston Online?

Walmart is EVIL!

Walmart is EVIL!

I don’t typically visit Perez Hilton, however someone linked me to his site, where he had an article about Wal-mart only selling Whitney Houston’s cd online but selling Miley Cyrus (same day release)  in  stores.I don’t really care so much because I’m so avid Whit fan, but I think Wal-Mart is a hypocritical company. I try not to support them at all cost.

Does that sound harsh? Did you hear what Wal-Mart did to Debbie Shank. I remember reading about her a year or so ago. Debbie was a Wally World employee and got injured in an accident. Naturally as an employee for a major corporation she was enrolled in their health plan. Wally World shelled out about 470, 000 in medical expenses for Debbie, who was now brain-damaged. After a suit settled for Debbie for around 1 mil, after legal fees and such that left 417,000 to be put in a trust for Debbie. Wal-Mart sued her to recoup their monies.

Seriously? A billionaire company? Read more details if you’d like. But I swear I didn’t make it up!

So yeah, the rest of you can continue to shop there, but as I get older I put more thought into the brands I spend the cash at.

So this raises the question for me. Why would you opt for this? Are you trying to protect your “family-friendly” image? Yes? Did you do the same to Britney’s cd? Does it matter that M. Cyrus is a Disney slut?

I can’t do it! Thoughts??Is this a conspiracy? Is Walmart showing their strength as a retailer? Is this true? Is it just a rumor? I mean, its not like Perez Hilton is THE most reliable source. More details to come!

More on Debbie Shank

****update****

I was actually on twitter with this and someone responded to my post with a link to @WalmartKelly who is a media rep for Wal-Mart & this is what her page said!

update!

I was actually on twitter about this and someone hit me up with a link to a rep from WalMart’s twitter, @WalmartKelly & this is what they said:

# Walmart will in fact be selling Whitney’s new album in all stores 8/31. We’re excited about Whitney’s new album!about 8 hours ago from web
#
Walmart.com had unexpected tech issues, some CD pages are not showing up. We’re working on it now. Whitney will be online & in WMT stores.about 8 hours ago from web
#
@marlin6 @perezhilton Walmart will in fact be selling Whitney’s new album in all stores 8/31. We’re excited about Whitney’s new album!about 8 hours ago from web

So, if you so choose to go to Wally World (which I still don’t condone) then by all means do that on the release date. If its not there, I hope someone comes back & tells me! Pleeeaaasssseee :)

Ok, so enough about Kitty, on with the party!! Th e party was held at Nightengale Lounge in East Village in NYC. Nightengale is on the corner of 13th and 2nd Ave, just a few blocks from the 14th St. PATH station.  It was cute, quaint, and best of all cheap! They had happy hour drink specials which included my $5 cosmo and my $4 well drink (bay breeze w/ vodka)!   (For those that don’t know what a well drink is, its house vodka or rum mixed with a juice or soda). Kitty gave out some great gift bags, featuring Gap Jeans & South Pole shoes. My bag also included some Almond Cookie lotion from Carol’s Daughter, a soy candle from Yum Yum Candles, and Sprite Green

Fashion Friday: Purse Edition

I haven’t bought a new purse, a good NEW purse, in some time. A long long time. I found this bag, and even though it violates the budget theme of this week’s Fashion Friday but its so damn cute! It’s a leather shoulder bag that can be found at a Macy’s near you.

Furla Elisabeth Lissata

furla elisabeth lissata

This bag has gold tone hardware, a cellphone pocket, magnetic snap closure and it has a 10-inch drop. If your like me you need a bag that doubles as a bottomless pit. I also like the contrasting stitch.  The only other color available on Macy’s was blue. This color is the better option for me for daily wear.

cost: sale – $349.99

Fashion Friday: The Fail Edition

Sigh …

I hate when bad things happen to shoes. I want to take names and kick ass…  This is a:

Fashion FAIL!

fail-fredericks-lambskin-cuffed-sandal

Who did this to this poor shoe?? And bless the poor soul that actually bought them.

Found these via Fredericks of Hollywood as well .they are called the “lambskin cuffed sandal.” So many things wrong here .. the buttons? are those really buttons or are they accents that look like buttons? Too much toe. That whole half boot trend is a fine line to be teetered, and you my dear designer have failed. Super fail … Where is JessDubb so she can put her big red FAIL all over it! LOL

All I can say is just bad… bad… bad…

Fashion Friday: Baker’s Shoes . . .

My only gripe with Bakers shoes is that I’ve had some that were extemely poorly made. Not every pair, but a few. However, they do stock some pretty cute shoes.

parisien-bakers
Say Hi to the Parisien boot.

I like this bootie because of the slouch knit thing. They too have a 3/4 inch hidden platfrom on a 4 1/2 inch heel. They are black leather/sweater and will run you about $100. I like the idea of having on dark denim and having them tucked in the boot. I can imagine me rocking these. Or with a cute sweater dress and tights. LOVE!

One good thing about Bakers is they typically have a buy one get one 30% off, you might catch a sale with those. And then you can grab these booties by Wild  Pair while you’re there.
plaid-mandi purple

Say Hi to Plaid Mandi. she’s slightly higher than the Parisien with a 1 inch platform and a heel height of 4 3/4. Instead of leather they are suede and they are open toe. They also have a peek of side ankle going on.  These will cost you also $100 full price.

plaid-mandi white
These shoes are NOT for the fashion faint of heart. I’m torn on liking the purple plaid or the black/white more. Initially the black & white screamed Nay but after a closer look I can see both of them being work absolutely fabulously. OH my lord they are cute!

Thoughts?

Fashion Friday: Budget Style

So last time I did Fashion Friday it was alll about high -end shoes that I can’t afford, but this time (for the most part) we are bringing it down with some peeks at cheaper shoes for fall. I also have a few non-shoe surprises, so let’s get down!

First up …
fredericks-boot

Frederick’s of Hollywood.

I saw these boots in the fall preview catalog mailed to me. They are distressed leather with a hidden platform. In case you don’t know, I LOVE a hidden platform.  These 4 1/2 inch boots also come in black for those that aren’t ready for white. The best feature to me (while I’m up in arms about it asthecially) is the elastic ban at the top. I have huge calves so something of that nature is GREATLY appreciated, even if it cheapens the look. Total cost: $119 – definitely cheap for a boot. I wonder how comfy they are, but they are cute to wear with a wrap dress on a nice fall day.

Gesticulation: Guilty as Charged

August 13, 2009

Today I realized I’m a hand gesture-er when I talk . Or rather, I’m a gesticulator…

It’s the kind of gesticulation where as if I’m talking about passing me the salt shaker I demonstrate the movement that a salt shaker does. Or when i talk of blowing in the wind I make a hand gesture that (to me) means blowing away. It’s a really odd quirk now that its been bought to my attention. Or when just talking about matters that don’t have demonstrable gestures I move my hands a lot. I’ve caught myself interlocking my hands when trying to avoid using gestures at work, and it makes me very aware of my hands.

I wanted to find out what this says about me as a person.  Some have said that hand gestures may imply that the story teller is involved with a story. Or that a gesticulator is  characteristicly artistic, an actor, or eccentric. Some have said that it can typically mean that you’re nervous. Much like people who have a nervous laugh (I definitely have that!)

There was an article, from 2005, on www.sciencedaily.com that said that hand gestures are linked to better speaking in a study of bilingual children.  I also found this tidbit on www.corticowhat.blogspot.com (they did the reserach and found it in a University of Chicago study )

According to a new study, talking with our hand is actually beneficial. This makes thinking easier. A research conducted by the University of Chicago revealed that people who moved their hands more frequently while talking have higher retentive memory compared with those who kept their hands still.

So maybe I’m not being offensive when I demonstrate to the waiter what a salt shaker is, maybe my brain is just really working over time to keep me smart? Maybe?

If anyone has more info on this please share. Where is a pyschologist??

UP Close and TOO personal with Trey Songz

August 5, 2009

I was on facebook yesterday and someone posted this link to an interview with Trey Songz. I happen to like T. Songz (007-11 if you’re familiar with the Ocean’s 7 crew) but not in a crazed fan kinda way. There were mixed reviews on the facebook like about the interview with Honey Mag, some felt he let too much out in the interview. I disagree. This is the stuff that his fans want to know. SO, here are some highlights:

Let’s jump right in it. You are a proud supporter of porn?
Yeah. I think porn is cool.

Any recommendations?
Any recommendations on porn? Go to 4228, xxx.videos.com and freeporn.com. I don’t visit them frequently, but that’s three different sites. How could you go wrong?

You prefer free over paying?
Not necessarily. Sometimes I pay for it in the room. Because when I was younger I used to sneak and buy DVDs.

What’s your favorite type?
I think that porn is a way to broaden your horizons as far as sex is concerned. I remember when I first started watching porn my favorite porn star was Lacey Duvalle, Lindy Foxx, and I like the free will of porn all in itself.

And what are your favorite things to use in the bedroom?

My tongue and my penis (laughs).

How much does your own sex life influence your music?
A lot.

Do you play your music while you get it in?
Nah, I have before, yeah.

That’s a little cocky.
Is it? Think so? I mean so many other people are having sex to my music, why can’t I? I play music. Not all the time. Like I don’t have to have music to have sex. Because sometimes I like silence so I can hear her.

What’s your favorite song to have sex to? Or top five 5 sexiest songs?

“Greatest Sex” R. Kelly, “Fuck You Tonight” Biggie. And a lot of these songs depend on who it is, like if I’m making love to somebody and it’s somebody special, I’ll play like some Prince “Insatiable.” And actually I had a playlist — a sexual playlist. Where is it? I put it on my iPod.

Okay you look for that. In order of importance love, sex, money, or fame?

It would be love, money, fame, sex.

trey-songs

This is just a portion of the in depth interview with Honey Mag, definitely here over there to view the rest if your a Trey Songz stan fan.

I thought it was funny. I haven’t been to my girl @JessDubb’s blog in awhile, and when I was catching up I saw she had posted a blog about T. Songz. I guess his time really is now …
