Fashin Friday 10.30.09 : Halloweenie!

October 30, 2009

I jokingly said that I wanted to be a Squash player for Halloween. I envisioned a similar costume to this, high socks, short shorts, and a cute squash racket! this is cute, a little too shiny, but cute!

sports player halloween costumeBut I would nix the heels.  Who plays sports in heels, besides homegirl from Legally Blond!

The more I look at this costume, the more I want to wear it. Add sheer stockings, brown sexy boots, and my red wig and I’ll be one sexy, tasty cupcake!  This one is 34.99 at Party City.

Fashion Friday 10.30.09: Halloweenie!

pirate costume halloween women sexy

Minus the Playboy bunny logo all over this costume would be cute in a generic sleezy Halloween costume way.

Me & my friends say that Halloween is the day all women use to dress as sluts. I would be living up to that in this costume.

Fashion Friday 10.30.09: Halloweenie Style

Finding the perfect Halloween costume is extremely difficult! Last year I knew exactly what I wanted to be. I went to one of the kazillion Halloween stores that pop up on every corner and found it. I wore it 2x. I partied like I never partied on Halloween. My German Barmaid even tried to snuggle up with the resident Dr. Hottie! This year, I am absolutely torn (and not ready to spend $50 on another one time wear *wink wink* outfit). So far, all I have is a red Lolita wig. Aiming for total transformation!

This year, I want it to be cute, yet original, and also very affordable. However, as we are the day before, that doesn’t seem very necessary. here are a few I’ve seen and thought stood out above the rest. Maybe looking at them will help the decision process.

First up: Party  City Costumes! (Because I happened to go there today)

Fashion Friday: 10.30.09 Jason Campbell

I have never even heard of this person, but this ad made me want to know more. The power of ads is intense.

Jason  Campbell is apparently a hot, new (or not so new its been like 9 years) Shoe God on the scene who doesn’t cost 6 months rent. Peep his websites intro! I don’t even like autoplay music, but it intrigued me.

Spreading Sunshine on Mischief Night?

Happy Pre-Halloween!! Don’t throw eggs on anyone, or tee pee any houses!  OK!

cleosunshineI  love to spread sunshine. It may not seem important but I enjoy sharing my little jewels with others, as silly as they may be.  So it really bothers me when people have outdated blogrolls. Its one thing if the blogger just hasn’t updated in months, totally another when the blog just doesn’t exist anymore. I’m just saying, its good business to keep it updated.    On with the show!!

1. Women want a lot, or that’s so it seems. And I, as a woman, find that I want very little.  But this guy, no idea who he is, breaks it down to how to get what you want, with humor -- not in those cheesy Cosmo ways that tell you to sell your soul to the devil to get the man you want. I had never even been on Stumbleupon, but I guess its good that I did!

2. I hate hate hate HATE baseball. Playing it is so much more fun that watching.. But um, these guys in those tight pants. I’ll watch! JadeNY’er wrote this for my girl Kitty Bradshaw’s site. Check it

3. This litte girl is really moving! And she’s not dancing in a way that is overly raunchy, but just in a way that she has this routing down pack! via Alyson Mance

4. The G-Men (the powers that be behind Google-y stuff) are acing this customer service thing apparently. I love tales of good customer service, being in customer service myself. And, whenever someone tells me I rock, I tell them to let my supervisor know, HA! Plus, this story is downright ridiculously amusing. Straight Comedy!

Cleo Rants: Gender Roles too enforced?

October 28, 2009

CleoSunShine7-hair-sticking-upI did a poll of friends to discuss whether Irish Spring was a male soap or a unisex soap. It started off as a friendly debate between someone, but I needed to validate one of our points. After all, someone has to be right.

Overall, most people only remembered the original scent of Irish Spring. You know, the big green or blue bar that will leave your wash rag tinted iwth that color. Those I will stand by the point made by the opposition in that those may be masculine, but others like aloe and micro clean are unisex. What man is ready for lemon scent? I think that Colgate (the distributor of Irish Spring) markets more for me because if they make the soap seem too girly, men won’t buy it. And you have to appeal to the larger market.

Men who use Dove or other “girly” soaps often deny it, or hide it. And why? Because of how people will perceive them?

Now think of this, how does this extend beyond the superficial of what we are talking about? Why do things always have to be assigned a gender? Their are “girly” cars and then “manly” cars. No one wants to be perceived more masculine or feminine than they actually are, correct? Is this more true for me? Are there more implications associated with a male for being deemed as too feminine?

Did it make me question myself when it was made a point that my soap was a masculine soap? Nope, not at all because I’ve used this soap since the dawn of time and am secure in my woman-ness. But would i want to be perceived as tom-boyish, probably not. Perception is the reality these days. Don’t be a victim of perception deception!

Why? Wednesday!

amy winehouse nipple

I hope everyone gets over Hump Day! Here’s a few Why’s for Wednesday. Add you own! I used to do this with a book club I belonged to. It’s very relaxing!

1. Why did Amy Winehouse get implants? This looks horrible. My eyes can’t take it! Check the before and after man!Thing is, I think she has the potential to be pretty. Shoot, others look worse!

amywinehouse pre boob job

2. Why do people fuel pseudo celebrities? Like seriously, because Tameka Foster-Raymond, or whoever she is, keeps feeding the media, she seems to think she is famous. Honey you’re not. And neither are half these other people. Why won’t they just go away.  Audacity . REAL celebs don’t call people at home. This is why you’d never be famous! Speaking of Pseudo celebs, why everyone gotta pick on Khloe Kardashian? Saying how she’s the ugliest sister? She’s a cute girl, and idiot, but still cute. I hate that picture they have up all  over the internet of her in that horrible red lipstick. She shouldn’t be allowed to do that!

3. Why do I like Chris Brown’s new video, but I’m not totally sold on the song? Maybe its because of Wayne. I’m so not into him. But I love C.Brown. He’s getting older now too, so I don’t feel so pervy!

4. Why is R.Kelly still making music that tries to attract 16 yr. olds? That song, Number 1 is whack. Shoot yourself.

5. Why did yahoo auto draft me Shaq? I hate Shaq! Even worse, I hate listening to him talk.

6. Pogo.com’s Battle ship is utterly addicting. Why do I spend many hours playing this new game. Salvo style please and thank you!

Fashion Friday 10.23.09: Is this High Fashion?

October 23, 2009

Maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough for high fashion, but what is the appeal on this shoe? Like seriously? It can’t be comfortable! jil sander weird heel blue I love the blue color, I love the detailing at the top. But the heel and the platform are killing me. First off, they are 2 distinct textiles. What the hell is that, a metal pipe anyway?? I’m so over the heel. And that sucks because I enjoy when heels are different, i.e D2squared ’s lightning bolt heel, or even when Madonna wore the shoes with the gun as the heel. These, I’m not feeling. Thoughts?? OH, and they cost hella  lotta money since they are Jil Sander and I saw them on Global14.com with all the other “high fashion” shoes!

Fashion Friday : Boots! (again!)

Is there a such thing as too much of a good thing?

I realized today I love fall, simply because I love all the different boots! I love leather and I love suede. I enjoy nubuck and canvas. I want knee high boots, but settle for calve length. I just love boots!

bakers cashmere boot
These boots are cute, they are called Cashmere!  They are a combination of leather and sweater material. The only draw back is that I like a sturdier heel than the stiletto. I prefer the heel to be a little more stacked, but everything else is great! The heel is a fantastic 4 1/2 inches and the toe is squared off. I also love the buckles over the sweater material.

These can be found at Bakers for 99.95. Affordable and cute makes them so much better!

Cleo is informative! Credit Card Mistakes you should avoid!

October 22, 2009

I’m being very informative this week! I guess with all the things going on, you can never have enough knowledge on how to make your life simpler by avoid money problems! Today’s topic:

Credit Cards!

The bane of your existence if your under 30 and got those cards while you were in college. I know that I sometimes regret the day that I signed on that dotted line! Or better yet, that I had been better advised on credit card etiquette.

Yahoo! Finance had this great article on how bad are your credit card mistakes, you know what mistakes I mean: paying late or the bare minimum, missing a payment, or just having a slew of cards for no reason. They rated all these bloopers on a scale of 1-10 to give you an idea of how bad your doing! Now, some of these are no-brainers, but others are kind of shocking!

Most Shocking:

Debt Settlement Plans – they rank at 9.5 on the BBAADD scale! Did you know that while yes, this helps you pay less back to your debt, you also take a tax hit? Apparently, it counts as income during that tax year AND you credit will be tarnished! According to yahoo, next to bankruptcy debt settlement is the most negative thing you can do to your credit score! WOWZERS!

Cash Advances – these rank at an 8. I have yet to take a cash advance on a card, and from the looks of this, I won’t be anytime soon! What always scared me was the alarming higher interest rate on them, but apparently you also have NO grace period.

Not so shocking:

Maxing out your CC – HELLO! that isn’t rocket science. Every one knows that! On this scale it ranks a 7. This impacts your credit score, apparently pretty heavily because 30% of your score is based on “credit utilization” — the amount of credit you’ve used relative to the amount you have available!

Having too Many Cards – Guilty as charged! AT one point I had to get rid of a few because they left too much room for me to act up! While this doesn’t really affect your credit score from what the article says, it does say that it isn’t worth your wild to have all those cards because 1. you’re not getting enough value from the card to make it worth the high interest rates. 2. additional complications from additional bills and junk cluttering your inbox and 3. You’re likelihood of missing a payment is higher and the potential for identity theft!

There are a few more on this list, so I definitely think this is worth the read! Check it!

Music Meltdown! Alicia Keys & Queen Latifah

I heard Alicia Keys had a new single out, but I don’t really listen to the radio or watch music videos on TV often enough, so sorry if I’m late with the new video. I’m not really digging this song, but maybe it will grow on me like No One did! A. Keys is looking gorgeous in the video as usual

Queen Latifah has a new video for her song Fast Car of her new album Persona, which I do have. And I love it! I didn’t even know it was out until I was browsing Amazon for some new music one day. I didn’t do a review, because I didn’t know if anyone would be interested, but I just may. I love all the cameos in the video, especially Common, who is so SEXY!

Thanks to EbonyIntuition.blogspot.com for putting a girl on!

Cleo Reviews: Law Abiding Citizen

October 19, 2009

law Abiding citizen

*** Possible Spoilers**

Man seeking revenge for the death of his family. Not a new concept, but it can always be redone. Clyde is a “normal” guy who’s wife and daughter are slaughtered in front of him. He attempts to let the justice system do its job, but is disappointed that the man who did it gets cut a break for snitching on his accomplice. Clyde is NOT happy with that, in fact he’s straight up pissed! Flash forward 10 years and he enacts his revenge, or his plot to fix the system.

Clyde is up against Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx). Rice is a good guy, but he’s typical DA material, more concerned with his conviction rate than actually doing justice. And that’s the plot in a nutshell. Clyde wants justice, not deals!!! And you better get it right, or you’re TOAST!

Ok, so just who is the Law Abiding Citizen in this movie? From the previews you think it’s going to be Gerard Butler being LAC but being devious at it, but as you continue to watch the movie you think Jamie Foxx is the LAC. So really, just who is it? I think the movie makers want us to be confused. They want to make you question, do your root for the “bad guy” or the guy who is just doing his job?

This movie was suspenseful, slightly gory (hello, his blood GUSHED out of his neck, and her brains were on the floor), and above all well written. Except the end, I do have some gripes about the ending because it could have been much better. I mean, Brooke McQueen (Leslie Bibb for those who don’t know) could have been so much better! Not that she was bad, but her talent could have been used in better ways, like she should have been trying to smash Nick. Then I’d believe her character, after all no one works hard and gets to the top these days!

Go See it, but not after you just ate.

New ways to scam college students!

Newest Scam for college kids: being target for “illegal downloads. ” An apparently bogus collections agency that sent out letters to Bucknell students demanding $500 to settle the students’ alleged illegal downloads. Seriously! That’s crazy. Imagine that 10 people actually paid that $500. That’s an easy 5k for some scammer. TAX FREE!!! And who is really going to contest that email they get about illegally downloading something?

Scam!! It’s a scary word and a scary practice. Scammers are ruthless, they don’t care how they get you, as long as they get you.  And as time goes on, those scams just get more elaborate.

Other scams for college Student’s are pretty common: Fake scholarship promises, crazy student loans, diploma mills, and other websites that sell you cheating supplies (which is just stupid!) Why would you spend THOUSANDS of dollars on education, just to spend more money faking it through? This is why the value of a college education is dropping, and most jobs require Masters Degrees now. Value your education people.

For more reads on the 6 scams that target most college students check it out!
