American Girl in Paris, Part Duex

American Girl in Paris, Part Duex

Except Paris is the gym and its more like the bottom of the 9th inning in a double header than just part duex. This week was week 1 back in the gym. To be honest, the fact that I am now  heavier than my starting weight last year has taken the biggest toll on me. It hit me that I am  heavier than I've been at my heaviest. Crazy how that can happen within one year of me being my skinniest I've ever been. And I realize how much I don't want to talk about it. The fact that I created a separate Instagram account to rack my progress says a lot about my insecurity on the issue. So do I give myself the same speech, "buck up kiddo, if…

I have constantly been dealing with food and weight struggles. Just take a look here, here, here, oh here.. and even here on this site at my post that chronicle as far back as 2008 to see how often the topic of weight or diet or health coms into the discussion? How many New Years Resolutions have centered about bettering my health and hopeful wellness?? When will it ever end? It's easy to say its more about lifestyle changes, consistency, and all the standard rhetoric that comes along with it. This time around, I'm working extremely had at  being committed to my goals by being vocal about my goals to anyone who will listen. I have gotten my network involved by being vocal because it forces them to respect my…

Yoga is new to me and of course being the crazy person I am I started with Bikram (or hot yoga depending on who you ask) , and I'm learning to will and focus my body but how can I will and focus my mind? I tend to be someone who charges forward with new things or just whatever my current interest is, maybe it's the Gemini in me. But the problem with charging full steam ahead is I run out of fumes too early. Or I lack true preparation skills and forward thinking. I know that I have trouble with accountability when it comes to holding myself accountable, which is why this week I was able to skip the gym entirely. Not the best idea when you want to train…

6 week Challenge. That's what we called it. A chance to revamp something in your life that you wanted to do. Health? Jump Start it. Clutter? Get rid of it. Me and a group of friends did it. Did we succeed? My challenges during the 6 weeks were to 1. Focus on clean eating. 2. De-clutter my closets. 3. Try to be more organized 4. Be the person you want to be. How did I fare? Clean Eating was really about eliminating meat. And juicing. It started off good. Juicing before work in the AM. I'd prepare a green juice with lots of leafy greens before work. I'd get to my desk and have a ginger tea and water and then my juice. Having one juice a day wasn't too…

I am a MF’in SPARTAN!

I mentioned that I had signed up for the Spartan Sprint a few months ago and that I hoped this would help me reach physical and weight loss goals. Well, I can't say that I lost much weight training, but I can say that I did feel healthier, stronger, and fitter. But was it enough to prepare me for this task? I don't think anything can prepare you for such things. It was 3.5 miles of hills and rocks and mud and obstacles. I'm talking carry a sandbag up a hill then back down it for a total of .5 miles. Can you do the monkey bars after dragging your "pet rock" around? Now you have to carry a tire down hill then back up. At least 100 yards of…

Fresh Start? Fresh Diet!

This week was rough, it felt  busier than usual and equally exhausting. I had even less time to cook and I can't seem to figure out why. I seriously need a change. Because I'm trying to do so much:  school, work, cooking, cleaning, dating I don't find time to really do ALL the things I want to do. I used to find more time to cook, but as my work and personal life get more complicated I find I have less and less time. And I'm really struggling to lose this weight I want so desperately GONE! Especially since I have Vegas coming up for Memorial Day. I went to the doctor recently to get some tests done to see if there are some deeper issues and been reading Jillian Michael's book, "Master…

I am DISCOURAGED!  I mean not a whole lot but enough to bruise my ego. A week into my "Biggest  Winner" competition at work and my training for Sparta I felt like I was doing things right. I was, most importantly, excited for my workouts. They were going good. And I ate pretty damn good all week. Always staying under my calories. But I weighed in today 2 pounds heavier. Instant demotivation. However, I will not let it get me down. I'm having a lot of fun doing the training. It's great having an email group where we discuss the daily workouts and modifications and where we struggled with it. That is definitely keeping me motivated. Plus its the excitement of trying new routines. I'd have never done 5 pushups…

Guess what I'm doing? httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7I7iasuIdw&feature=pyv I'm super excited and super nervous and want to finish in good time. Not be the last fat ass across the finish line. I'm doing the June 2nd Spartan Sprint. Find out more info here: http://www.spartanrace.com/index.html This really was a spur of the moment decision to sign up. I literally had never heard of the Spartan race before and by the end of the day not only had I signed up but it went viral in my small world! LOL. I had known two people who did mud runs last year but after talking about this, I discovered there were people around me who had done the ToughMudder run.. I'm now in an email group, trying to do the Workout of the Day's that are sent...…

Dream a little Dream

I finally, finally completed my Dream Board. I don't even want to tell you when I started it, but just know that it was stalled for so long because I put so much pressure on myself to make it "perfect." But what is a perfect dream? Why do I have to have on dream? I remembered, "Yo, this is NOT permanent...Change as necessary." This board is reflective of where I am now, what desires I have, the goals I want. Because because ultimately I want to be near a beach where I reside. The book and pen reflect my desire to get back to creativity, stretching my imagination. The fitness? self explanatory right? I think this board is awesome. It's my desktop saver. I wrote, what's more important in lipstick on my…

I feel like every year, like hoards of other people I'm making a resolution to lose weight ... Then I fail, and six months later I'm making another vow to lose weight. It's depressing frankly.  So, this year I've decided to take a new route.  I've stolen the Alcholics Anonymous mantra of  'One day at a time'. (No, I do not say a serenity prayer before or after meals!!!). I am the queen of slipping up and saying "I'll make it up tomorrow by _______" and that starts a downward spiral of bad eating and workout habits. I also cannot get complacent with hearing "Oh you look slimmer now..." I have to be commited to the goals I have. I thought of using the 'One day at a time" mantra…

End of Year Musings

As we approach the new year I think a lot about what I've accomplished both personally and professionally each year. And I think about what I hope to tackle in the next year, I believe that I'm at an age where resolutions don't hold too much  merit .. and I think of what it means to make a resolution and maybe we're doing it wrong. I watched the movie, New Year's Eve and I thought about Michelle Phiffer's character and how she set those goals and had to get them done before midnight (the New Year). They weren't things like "Lose Weight" or "Save more Money" They were more tangible. More memorable. This is a little off topic for what I wanted to write, but not completely. Anyway. I don't…

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEbRxTOyGf0 Check it... High Fructose Corn Syrup, one of the top ingredients in most of the food consumed in America.  Linked to the rising levels of obesity in this country.  So why is the Corn Refiners Association trying to promote that HFCS isn't nearly as bad as we think it is.  Have you seen these commercials.  I saw one the other day while watching my daily dose of 30 minute meals with Rachel Ray.  And frankly, I was disgusted.  Then I saw another one on Vh1 Soul one morning.  In the commercials and on their website they deem that: "High fructose corn syrup offers numerous benefits. It keeps food fresh, enhances fruit and spice flavors, retains moisture in bran cereals, helps keep breakfast and energy bars moist, maintains consistent flavors…

Spin Class My Ass

Spin Class My Ass

Fitness
So in my world, Thursdays have recently become "Spin Class Thursday." So every week no matter how tired I am and I drag my ass to the 6:45 pm Spin Class at my gym.  Now, I've been doing this class for about 3 weeks, so its fairly new, but its pretty cool. However,  if anyone has taken a spin class they have realized that this bike hurts your ass.  Not in a "Oh my god! we worked our glutes hard today," kinda way, but in a "Damn, my ass is sore kinda way." No matter how softly I try to come down on my seat, that damn piercing seat makes my ass hurt. I don't know if everyone knows what a spin class (or a cycle class as some call…
