Happy Constitution Day!

Lifestyle
I have a wonderful video playing at my job today to celebrate this document... even though so many things that occur today are UNCONSTITUTIONAL... I should get John McCain's quote about how he wants people who will apply interpret the constitution as the forefathers wanted it... Anywho... everyone is all handing out free stuff in honor of Constitution day.. I got a handbook with the Constitution in it, an American flag key chain, and a free piece of cake... ALL is well when there is cake involved... So to celebrate Constitution day I say go out and say some really obnoxious crap and blame it on your right to free speech... and tell them its constitution day so you can say whatever you like... And please... make sure you fully…

Spiritual Proximity…

Lifestyle
"A woman's heart should be so close to God's that a man has to seek him to find her..." This quote was inside an email I received.  This quote, combined with an intense conversation someone and I had the other day made me question, Why are we so concerned with someone else's proximity to church, God, and spirituality? I think that people are overly concerned with others religious beliefs, and for what? Does it make someone a better Christian if they can convert their sacrilegious friends over to the Holy word? Does God smile on them then and only then? I don't see why people are so obsessed with judging someones faith based on how much they go to church.  Why is it so hard to believe that someone can…

Are books a dying breed?

Lifestyle
I had an interesting discussion the other night about audiobooks, e-books, and regular old books.  It seems to be that audiobooks are on the rise and books are on the decline.  For me, part of the joy of reading comes from flipping the pages of the book and slipping into a world that isn't my own.  I don't see the joy in listening to someone read to you.  Usually, when someone talks to me for an extended period of time I tune them out.  I only have a listening period of so long before my thoughts take over and I don't know what they said.  I feel the same would happen with an audiobook.  And, why are audiobooks so much more expensive than a plain old book? I heard someone…

Can We Talk For a Minute??

Lifestyle
I always knew i was attached to my devices.  My cellphone, computer, ipod or anything else that was small and portable.  Needless to say I felt completely disconnected from the world when my laptop was on the fritz for a few weeks a couple of months ago. Sure internet can be accessed via cell phones, work computers or even using my roommates computer.  But everything ceases when your own personal computer is gone, or at least for me it did.  Goodbye to free music downloads. I can't tell you how sad it made me not being able to download anything new or update my ipod.  Do you know how disheartening it is not to be able to add new songs to a playlist? To see how many play counts a…

The Return of TV!!

Lifestyle
I don't know about everyone else, but this summer kind of sucked in regards to TV.  I looked forward to TNTs "The Closer" for so long that when it finally premiered I had over hyped it to myself.  But someone reminded me that last night was the season Premiere of the CW's Gossip Girl, which I feel in love with last year during the writers strike.  I spent a whole day hogging my roommates desktop so I could watch every episode online until i was caught up.  I mean literally, a whole Saturday, I even ate in front of the PC.  So after watching the return of Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen I sought a schedule of fall premieres.  And I found a good one! Not that I…

Fatherhood Commercials

Lifestyle
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A2Ap3DyvLg&feature=related I love this commercial everytime I see, because its just so cute, without being too cheesy like those say no to drug public service announcements.  I caught myself sitting on the couch one day singing, "those boys are much too much." I like the fact that this shows a father daughter relationship, because those relationships are extremely important.  Especially for black women, too many of us don't have father figures at home.  I think that all girls; white, black, asian, indian-whatever their ethnicity need strong male role models.  It is these relationship that shape the relationships that we have with males for the rest of our lives.  You find some women looking to fill a fatherly void and you sometimes wonder, "Well, what is she doing with him," or…

My Movie Review

Lifestyle
Disclaimer: This is solely my opinion and I don't represent any one elses views or have any facts to back up my opinion... So this weekend I went to see Jack Bauer, I mean Keifer Sutherland in the movie Mirrors.  And I have to say that over the past few years I have lost faith in scary movies.  So many have been . . . whack for lack of a better word.  I can't pretend that there haven't some jewels: The Saw series The Hills Have Eyes The Ring (only the first one) But so many have been remakes of past movies or of popular Asian movies.  I mean, movies in general have just lacked any sparkle of creativity.  in the past 5 years there have been more remakes than…

North Jersey Ninjas

Lifestyle
I am going to dub this duo the "North Jersey Ninjas" since Shinobi Warriors doesn't work for me.  I wonder if they received training watching Ninja Warrior on TV? That show really tests people physical strength.  Anyhoo, here we have two 'modern day' ninjas, Tadieusz Tertikiewicz and Jesse Trojaniak, of Clifton, NJ.  Side note, despite what people say New Jersey is a pretty damn popular state.  It is mentioned in damn near every movie and we produce many great talents, none of which include these two. The mission of the North Jersey Ninjas is to rid the area of drug users and dealers because they feel it is their destiny to stop their "impure activities." Talk about a "war on drugs." These two prepared letters to leave at the houses…

Broadway Revival

Lifestyle
So yesterday while I flipping through my September issue of Essence magazine while working out, I came across a one-page article about India Aire starring in a revival of Ntozake Shange's "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf." I was so thrilled I damn near fell off the machine.  I personally have not read the book, but I have heard how inspiriting it is, and what I have read from Ntozake I have loved.  She is phenomenal.  I think I am going to grab a copy of this book from amazon the next time I purchase a book.  I have to keep an eye on this production because I absolutely  have to see this. I really wanted to catch the all black revival of Cat…

Sigh, just throw it up and watch it. . .

So, I am quite new to this blogging thing, and as you can see I am constantly changing and updating and growing.  So todays lesson was finding out the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org.   And i can say it wasn't quite what I thought it was and I still have many questions.  I found out because I had been trying to upload a plugin.  and I read all this tutorials and help sites that just kept saying, "use a plugin with wordpress" never differentiating between .com and .org.  So I followed allll the steps and still had no luck.  So I then go back into the available forums and frequently asked questions and find that yes, you can use plug ins with wordpress, just not the wordpress I am using. …

iTunes Blunder

Lifestyle
Every time I'm updating my playlists on my iTunes I always wish that I could see if a song is already on a playlist and silently prayed for the iTunes Gods to add that user-friendly feature. And before I tell you about my blunder its important that I note one thing,   I consider myself pretty iTunes savvy.  So imagine my surprise when one day I right clicked on a song to see something and I noticed the options, add to playlist and shown in playlist.  Usually when I add to a playlist I kinda just drag and drop.  I'm also assuming that this isn't a new feature since the last itunes update was for iPhone fixes and etc.  So I felt like a complete idiot.  Why didn't anyone tell me…

Granny’s Got a Gun!

Lifestyle
Granny ain't no joke!! I swear my grandmother would do something like this! This here is Leda Smith of Point Marion, PA and she don't play. Leda was home chilling, probably watching reruns of Golden Girls on Lifetime or Judge Judy when someone broke into her house. So Leda went and got her gun(a .22 caliber revolver), which she had because there had been a string of robberies in her area, and busted that two-bit burglar. Wait! It doesn't stop there! She then forced HIM to call the police while she kept him in her sights! She said, "I said, 'what are you doing in my house?' He just kept saying he didn't do it." Yeah, you didn't do it, but yet you're here underneath the head of my gun.…

I  may be one of 5 people who are looking forward to Solange's album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams. I loved the first single, "I Decided" and I just saw this video this morning, and I like i too. In certain parts of the video you REALLLLLYYYY see the family resemblance between her & her ever famous sister Beyonce. I love how Solange plays on the shit people talk about her, in the video she's singing atop a can of Solange, Can I sing soup... amusing. And she has this freestyle out to the industry, "Signed Sincerely" which I really like. So, she has found a fan in me... And because of that, on August 26th, I will download her album with glee... I mean, I did think of…
