TiVo Guilt, do you have it?

Blazing across the internet the past day or so are articles/blogs in response to a CNN article asking, 'Are you afflicted with 'Tivo Guilt'? Now, I have no problem with this question, in fact it might be valid, however what they define as TiVo guilt, which we will now refer to as DVR guilt because thats what I call it and TiVo isn't anything more than a brand, isn't what I would define as guilt. The article says that DVR guilt comes from providing users with more than they can watch, and is "turning a joy into drudgery." Apparently its the age old problem of biting off more than you can chew. With the option to now record shows, sometimes two in the same time slot people are recording shows…

Johnny Depp is the new Madd Hatter

These pictures have been circling the internet for the past few days. They are of Johnny Depp (one of my all-time favorite actors) as the Madd Hatter in the Tim Burton rendition of Alice in Wonderland. Honestly, I can't say that this doesn't look like a combination of Sweeney Todd mixed with Willy Wonka. I mean, thats why we all love Johnny, he can do weird crazy characters with the best of them. He can do heavy transformations, but does it ever become redundant? I think he's going to make one helluva Mad Hatter, but I don't want to feel like I'm watching Sweeney Todd or Edward Scissorhands struggle with his inner Willy Wonka if you know what I mean . . . even though he'll look hot in his…

BCBG Girls Disaster!

So, today I was browsing in the Macy's shoe department (which was a horrible experience I will detail at a later time) and I came across these shoes.  I sometimes search the clearance racks for various items, sometimes out of season shoes, sometimes just shoes I liked that are now cheaper.  I like to apply various Macy's coupons to these already discounted prices.  Ok, so enough background.  Take a look at these!! The BCBGirls Lotun. Horrible abominations of shoes... All these features should not be in one shoes, its just morally wrong! Zipper Mary Jane.. could have worked if solo.  That is how the shoe caught my eye.  I, lately, have had a thing for the Mary Jane variation, and love a good twist.  A little bit of hutzpah (idk…

Voting Experience

This was not my first election, I voted in the 2004 presidential election, the New Jersey gubernatorial election that elected Jon Corzine, the presidential primaries and now today.  However, today was the biggest thrill I got.  I actually knew that if I didn't vote I had no voice-which is always the case.  But this election is monumental in so many ways-this is history.  We are making history here, like the CNN ad in the New York times today, we are living in the moment in which history is made.  No matter who my ballot was cast for (but we all know I Barack'ed it!) I made a contribution to the future of my nation. I woke to a sea of text messages from friends encouraging me to get my lazy…

Hope for Hoes!!

There is hope for porn stars everywhere. Sasha Grey is an inspiration to all them hoes out there-she parlayed her fucking on screen to playing a high priced call girl in REAL MOVIE! She fucked her way to the top! Her role is realllly going to focus on her acting skills. I mean, I can see how that is so far fetched for her, instead of traditional oohs and ahhs that a porn actress has to deliver, she's going to have to TALK! I wonder if she can form real words. I'm not really a fan of white girls in porn, I'm actually pretty particular about the porn I watch, so I've never seen any of her movies, which include Bitchcraft 4, Totally Fucked 2, Flower's Squirt Shower 5, Grand…

Disaster Strikes!

W hen bad things happen to shoes its never a pretty sight. Here I was this morning thinking of how I have a nice amount of winter shoes.  But boy was I wrong. I'm at work when my cheap ass Bakers boots broke (AGAIN!).  So, since I was now down one good pair of shoes I decided to do some shoe shopping online. Black boots are essential to a winter wardrobe, so I had to replace mine with the quickness. On my search I found this disaster. OMG. I almost cried because this is just shoe torture! Brand = J.Shoes, Motto: Do the Jay Walk. LOL. Model:  TARA. Do the Jay Walk is a cute slogan/motto, but these shoes are just an abomination. And they have the nerve to be…

Flashback: Balenciaga Lego Shoes

This shoe made its debut at the Balenciaga Fall/Spring fashion week 2007. I got the idea to feature a "flashback" shoe from talking to my bestest when I told her I was doing shoe research for my blog, LOL. I don't know the official name of this show, so we'll just say the LEGO shoe. Worn here with this ugly grey sock, they are just wrong, wrong, WRONG! Why would you wear this gorgeous shoe with with track pants and sweat socks? The were worn in a much better fashion by Beyonce at the American Music Awards a few months ago. Her jeans are awesome, the jacket tight, and she wore the shoes perfectly. It's all in the detailing, and she shows how a shoe can really pull an outfit…

How can you write, but you don’t read?

I came across this article about how 2008 was proclaimed the year of reading. In the article they said  Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) has never read a book, but yet she writes them.  How does that really work? What about her kids? I think this occurs a lot today. Hell, we have a lot of "authors" who do not really write their own books. I mean, every time one of these "tell all" books comes out by these former video groupies, do people actually think they wrote them? No, they are more like dictations to a person they sold their story to.  Foolishness! Anyway, the article asks, does reading make you clever? Not necessarily. Reading does stimulate the cortex, and does improve things like: vocabulary grammar spelling writing comprehension reasoning…

An Old Friend

When you find a good pair of shoes you should love them.  Care for them.  In fact, you should buy two pair! LOL.  I had this pair last spring and I loved them so much that I wore them out. I mean wore them OUT! I tried to get the nice suede material cleaned, but it wasn't the same.  So, I did what any shoe lover would do-bought a new pair.   This is why I love the internet, because I would have had to search store after store after store after warehouse to try to find these shoes, let alone in my size since they were from last season. I had to first find out the shoe name, because I didn't even know it. I just knew the brand, so…

The New Fashion Police

I know I'm very late with this, but it doesn't mean its not still worth talking about.  I remember a few weeks ago I read a story about how in Flint, Michigan they were putting a ban on sagging pants.  I thought this was bogus and a bunch of straight cock-a-mammy bullcrap. I hate to see a young man with his pants hanging super low as much as the next person however I do not feel that it should be against the law.  This "law" is a direct assault on what many people deem "hip-hop" culture.  And this is a tragedy because more and more "hip-hop" culture is becoming "mainstream" culture.  but I guess the powers that be don't like that too much. So, I was slightly elated to read…

Are books a dying breed?

I had an interesting discussion the other night about audiobooks, e-books, and regular old books.  It seems to be that audiobooks are on the rise and books are on the decline.  For me, part of the joy of reading comes from flipping the pages of the book and slipping into a world that isn't my own.  I don't see the joy in listening to someone read to you.  Usually, when someone talks to me for an extended period of time I tune them out.  I only have a listening period of so long before my thoughts take over and I don't know what they said.  I feel the same would happen with an audiobook.  And, why are audiobooks so much more expensive than a plain old book? I heard someone…

Can We Talk For a Minute??

I always knew i was attached to my devices.  My cellphone, computer, ipod or anything else that was small and portable.  Needless to say I felt completely disconnected from the world when my laptop was on the fritz for a few weeks a couple of months ago. Sure internet can be accessed via cell phones, work computers or even using my roommates computer.  But everything ceases when your own personal computer is gone, or at least for me it did.  Goodbye to free music downloads. I can't tell you how sad it made me not being able to download anything new or update my ipod.  Do you know how disheartening it is not to be able to add new songs to a playlist? To see how many play counts a…

HFCS: Watch What You Eat!!

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEbRxTOyGf0 Check it... High Fructose Corn Syrup, one of the top ingredients in most of the food consumed in America.  Linked to the rising levels of obesity in this country.  So why is the Corn Refiners Association trying to promote that HFCS isn't nearly as bad as we think it is.  Have you seen these commercials.  I saw one the other day while watching my daily dose of 30 minute meals with Rachel Ray.  And frankly, I was disgusted.  Then I saw another one on Vh1 Soul one morning.  In the commercials and on their website they deem that: "High fructose corn syrup offers numerous benefits. It keeps food fresh, enhances fruit and spice flavors, retains moisture in bran cereals, helps keep breakfast and energy bars moist, maintains consistent flavors…

Fatherhood Commercials

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A2Ap3DyvLg&feature=related I love this commercial everytime I see, because its just so cute, without being too cheesy like those say no to drug public service announcements.  I caught myself sitting on the couch one day singing, "those boys are much too much." I like the fact that this shows a father daughter relationship, because those relationships are extremely important.  Especially for black women, too many of us don't have father figures at home.  I think that all girls; white, black, asian, indian-whatever their ethnicity need strong male role models.  It is these relationship that shape the relationships that we have with males for the rest of our lives.  You find some women looking to fill a fatherly void and you sometimes wonder, "Well, what is she doing with him," or…

My Movie Review

Disclaimer: This is solely my opinion and I don't represent any one elses views or have any facts to back up my opinion... So this weekend I went to see Jack Bauer, I mean Keifer Sutherland in the movie Mirrors.  And I have to say that over the past few years I have lost faith in scary movies.  So many have been . . . whack for lack of a better word.  I can't pretend that there haven't some jewels: The Saw series The Hills Have Eyes The Ring (only the first one) But so many have been remakes of past movies or of popular Asian movies.  I mean, movies in general have just lacked any sparkle of creativity.  in the past 5 years there have been more remakes than…
