I have been scouring the internet for days trying to find the shoes Monica is wearing in this video. She is rocking them around the 1:30 point, and they are phenomenal. I see a super high heel with a platform. MUST HAVE! On one blog a commenter said they were by a brand called Marni, so I began a search for them, but came up with nothing. I may not be able to afford them, but the shoe whore inside me needs to know who made them & how much they cost, can you help???
OH & I do like this song off Keyshia Cole’s 3rd cd, A Different ME. Monica can blow and I can’t wait for her CD. I’ve always been a Mo fan…
I like, borderline love, Amerie. Loved her 1st album, All I Have and Touch wasn’t too bad either. I am always sad that she isn’t blowing up the charts. It bothers me more when people say she can’t sing (which I think she can) when people like Rihanna and Cassie continue to be on their most played list and we all know they are no talent hags… But we know we can’t listen to other people because, well some say Queen Bey can’t sing, and that girl can blow. She just needs to make real music.
Anyway, here’s some Amerie called “Dear John”, what you think? Me… I like it. I want Amerie to do her thing. Why should she let her barely released 3rd album (that I have) stop her? She still has fans, her team needs to get with it.
Chrisette Michele’s new album Epiphany drops tomorrow, May 5th and I want you all to know what your getting into before you click purchase in iTunes. I loved her first album and I loved her when I saw her in concert, so I was really looking forward to this new cd. I can’t say I’m disappointed with her sophomore effort, but this album is very different than her first one, and that isn’t a bad thing.
I AM, her debut cd was, in my opinion, full of positive songs. I mean I loved Be Ok,Let’s Rock, Like a Dream, Is this the way, and Good Girl. There weren’t too many songs that made you think of relationships/men in a bad way and I really thoroughly enjoyed it. But this cd, I feel has a more gloomy vibe. From the opening track, Epiphany you notice the difference in the attitude of the singer. Of the 12 tracks (I know, I’m pissed it’s so short too) I’d say half of them are songs about break-ups and the such. I wonder what sort of personal dealings CM was going through.
Also, I feel like its noticeable that she didn’t do all the writing on this cd. I feel that the writing quality is drastically different than her first cd, I think the songs lack the total amount of soul that the first had. Not that they aren’t good, just not AS good. I need to find someone who bought an actual cd so I can look at the jacket to see who wrote what, but that’s not important.
My favorite songs on the album:
-Epiphany of course
-Porcelain doll
-Another One
-Notebook
-Mr. Right
Honorable mentions: Playin our song, What you do..
5/12 tracks isn’t bad at all. I love the fact that not every song sounds identical and the production is good. I’ve probably listened to this cd about 5x since it first came into my possession and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing her again in concert!
Overall .. 4/5
Oh.. and did I mention I think this girl is GORGEOUS?? Very beautiful girl!
Happy Hump Day Lovers! I hope all is well out there in the world. Here are some things for you to laugh & gawk at today! Please enjoy your day, and try to make someone else smile
Left or Right? — OK, I stared at this for probably 5 minutes trying to see how I can reverse the directions of the damn figure. And why the hell does that thing look like Beyonce to me. Bey needs to fall back!
Kanye’s So Amazing Video - Definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. Video is cool too! I used to be a Jeezy fanwhen he first dropped. Go Crazy was my JAM that summer. Its obvious that him & Kanye have good studio chemistry (NO HOMO!!!!!) LOL
MTB4 members get ripped – Blog Browsing I came across this. She gives it to each member of the last season. They all need someone to tell them like it is..
Turn your FAG on?? – OK, 1st.. parodies of songs make me laugh til no end. 2nd, doesn’t this guy look like Ne-Yo?? Tell me I’m lying!!
For those that don’t know a music crush is when I think someone’s music is totally dope & want to hear all of it! Some of my current and former music crushes include: Kanye West, Teedra Moses, Beyonce (at one point in time, god I was young! lol), Maroon 5, Lupe Fiasco, Vivian Green, & Raheem Devaughn to just name a few.
My music crush is Kid Cudi. I had heard of Kid Cudi a few months ago, my friend was all in hoopla over the song Day & Night ft. Jim Jones. Since I hate everything Jim Jones I refused to listen, but then later I heard Day & Night without him (Jones) and I loved it. But, I still didn’t pay Cudi too much attention. Then I was browsing online and someone said they can’t stop listening to his song, “Dat New New” so I gave that a listen, and liked it.
As I was doing my random scope for new music I came across this A Kid Named Cudi mixtape produced by Plain Pat & Emile and decided to give it a listen since I saw that his official album hadn’t dropped yet. I’m only about 10 songs in and I’m freaking in love. I love it. I love the whole vibe of it, its not too serious. He’s not trying to twist your mind up. The production is dope. I hope the rest of the mixtape continues in this fashion.
Now I realize I’m late as hell in the discovery of this mixtape but that doesn’t take away from the fact that I find it abundant in awesomeness. I mean his song Day & Night makes me want to consider a life of lonely stoner-ism. If you can make that sound appealing, then your good in my book!
I feel bad for being resistent for all this time. I had saw all these people following him on Twitter, but I refused to do so. And I had heard all these rumors about him saying he was retiring after one album so he had all these negative connotations in my head. I don’t really care what he does in his personal life as long as he makes good music. So keep doing your thing Kid Cudi musically & you won’t let me down. (And FYI I still won’t follow him on Twitter).
Rumor Mills are buzzing that Columbia Records dropped Kelly Rowland because she was no longer, “commercially viable” or whatever that means. This is following her firing Matthew Knowles as her manager a few months ago. I think that this is probably the best thing for Kelly. I like Kelly, sometimes, but at other times I just feel she is corny. I think her music dilemma is because of Matthew Knowles. I have noticed that many artist, i.e. Sunshine Anderson, who have been signed to Music World flop. I believe that Matthew’s top priority is Beyonce and other artists under his fold are bound to fail.
I think Kelly, like LeToya (who’s album I loved and look forward to her next), needs to take time away from the fold and sort out her affairs and then come back better than ever if a solo career is what she really wants. For Kelly, I feel that it’s so hard to step out from being “former member of Destiny’s Child” to just Kelly. It’s so hard to create an identity different that what your “fans” were used to, and many record labels don’t embrace change unless its what they deem necessary, so I guess maybe that’s why she’s not “commercially viable.” I’m just guessing…
Also, I do feel that Kelly’s voice isn’t strong enough to carry a whole solo cd. Don’t get me wrong, her voice is a beautiful voice, but not all beautiful voices can sustain being the lead on EVERY song, you also need a STRONG voice! I think her album was ok, some songs (like The Show ft. Tank) are HOT, but others just fall short. I did like Comeback also, but Ghetto should not have been a single if you ask me-instead they should have went with In Love with my Ex or Flashback, but since no one asked me I’ll drop it.. So on that note, I wish Kelly the best in her career, musically & otherwise since she is slated to host a reality TV show in the near future.
Ok. I really tried to like The Dream cd. I enjoyed his first (and I would never say this to anyone) but I was waiting for his second cd. Man, am I disappointed. And I feel like the only one, since everyone is boasting about how great this cd is. But I’m sitting there like WHAT cd are THEY listening to? There are maybe like 1 or 2 songs I like, others I’m staring atwith confusion. What the hell is this Take you home to mama” crap? And Put it Down? Who says this on a song: ” If they ask you do I dance like Chris? Tell them No But as much rubbing as we do I could start a fire” I’m sorry, what? On the track Sweat it out“he really says (multiple times) “Call Latisha your beautician” WHY IS THAT A LYRIC! I’m extremely disappointed in this effort from him. But everyone else loves it, and his songs are great for when your in the club dancing. And we all know that to op the billboards these days the music doesn’t have to be good. Has anyone heard of the Stanky Leg (EXACTLY!) I also don’t feel his voice is that good, it’s decent at best. But the same can be said about R. Kelly, whose influence is very apparent on the cd. When R. Kelly did the duet Same Girl with Usher, Usher was singing him under the table. But R. Kelly is a great song writer (who should be writing from jail as he is a pedophile).
Also released on 3.10.2009 was J Holiday’s second cd, Round 2. Now, I kept I was going to give his first cd a listen, because I heard boy really has pipes on him. But he kinda just slipped through the cracks and I never got around to it. Lately I’d been hearing some interviews he did on the local radio stations, and he sounded like a real cool dude, so I said I’d really give Round 2 a listen. And I did. And I love it. I have already allotted time tomorrow to listen to the first effort because I feel like I’ve been missing out. On this cd he even has a socially conscious song, Homeless. How many singers out there are still doing socially aware songs? Holiday’s lead single is It’s Yours, which is a good solid song. However other songs I like here are Forever ain’t enough, Run into my arms, Lights go Out, and I don’t even mind the Rick Ross feature (the only on the album) on the song Wrong Lover. Oh, and the boy really does have some pipes on him. (Did anyone else wonder if that’s Brugal Dominican Rum surrounding J on his album cover? That’s some strong stuff!)
I think it all boils down to the passion for the music. When listening to The Dream’s cd, I didn’t feel anything. Well, lets not say anything, I felt his sense of following a formula and desire to be on top of the billboard charts. While listening to J Holiday, I knew he really is in this for the music. And for me, that is central as I believe that music is life. J Holiday’s cd is music for life and The Dream is the “Radio Killa” or the “R&B Gorilla” or “The American Dream” depending on which song it is. His conceit is annoying and such a turn off. Great songwriter, for others. For himself, he needs more work, more editing and other input. So that’s my verdict. If your in the record store, or browsing your iTunes support J Holiday’s effort before The Dreams.*
I always tell everyone that I don’t listen to the radio because it sucks. Well, its true. Lately I’ve been letting the alarm radio run while I get ready for work in the mornings. I’ve been listening to Ed Lover and his crew’s morning show on Power 105.1 fm and I enjoy it when they are talking. It’s the music that kills me. The radio runs from 7:05 am to 8:05 am and in that hour, Monday through Friday, I hear the same 5 songs. What the hell, with all the music out there, you can only play 5 songs during this hour? The songs usually are:
1. Usher – Trading Places: I liked this song until I was forced to listen to it daily. Now I just want you to be you and go home…
2. Ron Brown – Pop Champagne: I think Skillz had it right when he said, “we in a recession you ain’t poppin’ shit.” HA!
3. Neyo – Mad: yeah.. I’m not going to bed mad, but I have woken up mad because this song is always on.
4. Jamie Foxx/Ne-Yo/Fabolous – She got her own: I think this song is ok, but when he says, “she takes pride in saying she paid for it” I snark and say, NOT ME. I enjoy saying it was a gift, it makes me feel loved. And I get to save my money… I’m just sayin… You can be “independent” and know how to graciously accept gifts . .
5. T.I. ft. Rihanna – Live ya Life: UGH.. Why hasn’t Rihanna fell off the face of the earth yet?
To be fair, the 5th song varies from time to time, but the rotation circle is pretty slim. Maybe I’m only meant for talk radio. If Ed Lover doesn’t do something about this, he’s going to lose the coveted AM drive time slot to Mr. Steve Harvey over on WBLS. Steve is awesome in the morning and WBLS has a better musical selection. ED if you’re reading this: HE’S COMING FOR YOU! (as if you care).
Beyonce’s album is still on my I’m not quite sure if I like it list. Some songs stand out, but others don’t. I like ‘Smash into You’ , ‘Broken-hearted Girl’, ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ (from the Japanese bonus version). Ones I’m not sure about are ‘Ego’, ‘Hello’ and ‘Satellites’. I did have high hopes for Beyonce, I miss the Dangerously in Love Beyonce. That was a classic album.
Now, I said in this post that Beyonce could do better than songs like “Diva” or if I didn’t say it I definitely thought it. I do NOT like this song in the least bit. So, when I saw still images of the video a few weeks ago I was thinking maybe the video will make me like this song, because sometimes that does happen. Definitely NOT the case here. This video is a mess. I don’t get the dancing, why she blew up the car, why she has these ugly ass shades that look like drapes. Beyonce, what is up with you? And the thing with her new double cd is that she releases 2 videos at the same time. So “Halo” also has a video and this one is better even though she is having her Flashdance/Dirty Dancing: Havana nights/ A Chorus Line moments. But damn, this girl is bi-polar. One video is superactive and glam and another is full of a calmer/innocent person. I need a happy medium because it makes me dizzy trying to figure out what personality she is going to be. It almost looks like in the Halo video she is practicing for her role as Sasha Fierce, LOL. Anyway, for your viewing enjoyment, here she is… Sashonce!
In case anyone cares (I don’t really but I just needed to blog about something; and this was semi-interesting and I got to say that America Loves a comeback) in some super miracle of miracles Britney Spears debuted her new album Circus at Number 1. Now, its not enough to be number 1 for the sake of being number one, she sold 500,000+ copies in her first week, coming just under Taylor Swift for 2008s biggest debut. She even outsold Sasha Fierce’s first week… This, along with the great success of Mariah Carey’s Emancipation of MiMi, really does show that we as Americans love a comeback. This is why everyone wants Michael Jackson to get it together. But back to Brit Brit. I can’t even pretend that I didn’t catch myself singing “Womanizer” at the most random times. I’d be sitting at my work desk and the next thing I know I’m humming, “Womanizer oh, you’re a womanizer.” Damn that song for being on an episode of my guilty please, Gossip Girl. I love those upper East Side brats, LOL.
Brit hasn’t had a #1 single since ‘Baby One More Time’ which was a super shocker to me. So I guess ‘Womanizer’ was a good luck for her. And she’s passing digital records also (286,000 online sales) since SoundScan started tracking downloads in 2003. This woman is showing that even though she is a loony as a loony toon, she is capable of selling records. Hell, even her tours are still selling out-they recently had to add a few more dates. See, Whitney (Houston) you too can make a comeback.. just let Bobby go and make your way back to the top… No receipts necessary…
The other night I was catching up on my VH1 Soul, seeing new music videos that I haven’t seen online. While watching, Bobby Valentino, or Bobby V as he apparently wants to be known as, had a video come on, titled “Beep.” This song and video are just all types of wrong. Well, not the whole video, just parts where I can see that Bobby V has this weird tail like thing on the back of his head, reminiscent of the ’90s. I mean seriously-a tail? I was watching in anticipation to catch it, to see what it was, because I saw it initially on a silhouette. I was like what is that! So I kept waiting anxiously for his head to turn, and when it finally did happen I saw this little tail afro type thing. What in the world! In addition to that the song is whack. I am not feeling it. Listen and judge for yourself!
It is no secret that I am Beyonce fan and that I’m also an avid Eric Jerome Dickey fan. So today is like Christmas being that his new book and her new album come out. I heard an advance of the Beyonce cd which I mentioned before, but I’m going to give it another whirl and listen to the Deluxe version with 2 additional Japanese bonus tracks. I have faith in her ability, and it doesn’t hurt that I saw an AOL video clip where she seemed excited about her “risks” in this work. My qualm with this is that Beyonce said that she was inspired by her work on the film Cadillac Records, where she portrays a feisty Etta James. If anyone remembers when B’Day came out Beyonce said she was inspired by DreamGirls, where she played Deena, and she wrote songs she wished Deena would have sang. I think that inspiration is great, and you should find it wherever you can, but this tune is becoming a little redundant B. I want to get to know YOU when I listen to your music, not Deena or Etta, that’s why I see the movies for that.
Eric Jerome Dickey is releasing the third installment of the Gideon Series, I guess we can call it that. The first was Sleeping with Strangers followed by Waking with Enemies. I adored SWS because it was so unlike anything he’d ever written. I was slightly disappointed with WWE because I felt sex took over the story and the story had so much potential. Every great author can redeem themselves, so I’m excited to see where he takes us next. The book he wrote after WWE and before this one, Dying for Revenge, called Pleasure was extremely good. It was well written and didn’t seem forced, and I could have sworn I knew a girl named Nia. Her character was a believeable leading lady, and thats what I love about EJD. He is definitely an author I admire. I hope to go to another one of his book signings and this time not be completely in awe and actually be able to form sentences besides things like the rain. I mean, I’d like to ask him many questions about the setting, the familial arrangements of his main characters and why, oh why, did he actually decide to continue with Gideon?
That’s from a SNL skit on Christian Sirano (sp) Project Runway winner. Anyway. I had the privilege over the weekend to hear an advance of the new Beyonce cd, I am…Sasha Fierce. I was not impressed, not in the least. And this is sad because I happen to love Beyonce and feel she has the potential to make great music. I didn’t add the advance to my iTunes, instead I am waiting on a retail copy of the deluxe edition, which even as a deluxe only has 16 tracks. I swear folk are jipping us.
Anyway, I decided to post this link for ppl to decide how they feel about two tracks “Diva” and “Video Phone” after I was doing a blog stroll and came across a cool blog called BlogXilla. I definitely enjoyed this new discovery and will be checking in from time to time, and heck maybe that can bring me more traffic. I love blog traffic, it makes me feel that its not all for naught (love the Sarah Palin reference). Back to topic.. “Diva” is supposed to be the female version of Lil Wayne’s “A Millie” and I just wish Beyonce would be the Queen she needs to be. REAL MUSIC!! UGH!!
Diva is to a similar beat as “A MIllie” and basically says that a Diva is the female version of a Hustla.. Now I firmly disagree with this because I thought being a Diva meant that you had a certain aura. She kinda has that “I know I’m a bad bitch vibe and you can’t compare”thing going on. And when I think of Hustla (with an “a” not an “er”) I think of someone who is grinding, doing what they need to do to get to where they need to be. For instance, someone who is working hard and going to school is hustling.. but they are not a HUSTLER, i.e. selling drugs on the street.
And “Video Phone” I’m just not sure what I think there.. I’ll get back to you on that..
Wow. Just really fucking wow is all I can say to the recent tragedies that have happened to Jennifer Hudson. The loss of a mother, brother and nephew are tragic in solitude and combined together is a recipe for extreme disaster. If she’s never heard from again its understandable but still tragic because despite it all people would love to see her succeed. Especially for her lost loved ones. There has been so much talk about how she should have known to get out the hood once she got a little fame and fortune but so many are shunned upon for doing just that. Why should money equal a move to the burbs? She should uproot her family because she got fame now. And fame doesn’t alwyas equal riches. I’m sure American Idol has some serious contracts with her earnings. Why should she bear the burden of financing housing for her mother, brother, sister and so. Her mother, yes that’s understandable and yeah you want to help everyone who’s been there for you out, but buying everyone a house in the burbs, or even having everyone live in your house is a bit much. If I ever make it semi big of course I’ll make sure my grandmother lives comfortably, but if that wish is to stay in her senior citizen apartment who am I to deny that? I can make sure her rent is paid every month on time and she doesn’t worry. We don’t know the situation there, and even then she shouldn’t have had to leave her home if that wasn’t her choice. However if this was truly a domestic disturbance, as most news agencies are reporting, then no matter how far they were from the “hood” it still would have happened. Violence is not condemned to the hood, that’s just where they report it from to perpetuate fear in the world. Other people have said her sister should have known not to be with a thug, especially with a young son. But like Brittany Spears showed us, you can take the person out the environment, you can’t take the hood/trashiness out of
But no specific blame went to the accused. Granted, this is America, innocent until proven guilty, and I’d really hate for the wrong person to go to jail for this heinous crime. Whoever is at fault, they need to realized that we, as humans, are not in the proper practice of deciding who’s lives to take. I don’t care what the sister brother or son did why kill them all-and a child especially. Killing an innocent child is instant death penalty to me (and I’m not sure I even support death penality.) It shouldn’t be a life for a life, however he should be penalized for his lack of respect for human life. THREE LIVES! Now this girl, and Jennifer Hudson, has to live her life without a son, a mother or a brother. I’m not even close to my mother and I am an only child and I feel her pain. Loss is an emotion we can all sympathize with. J Hudson is probably sick of people offering well wishes, especially people she doesn’t know, but I really hope she doesn’t fade into the background due to this. I really am hoping for her strength through these times. It’s not something you over come, but something that you learn to live with. Each day without the person will be hard, sometimes gruesomely hard, but as her recent stroke of luck has shown she’s a star-so please continue to shine girl!
Dope. Crazy. Perfectly Imperfect. I'm not the best writer and probably not the worst either, but I am happy while doing it. Stick with me and you'll never be bored! I mean, maybe you won't and maybe you will....
