Retail Therapy

Fashionable
I had to share my latest purchase.  And I k now I don't need brown boots because I need some new black boots, but these boots looked so much better in the brown, so I had to go with that.  I was emailed a coupon for family & friends weekend with NineWest so I absolutely had to take advantage of it.  And I could use some retail therapy.  I actually felt some of my melancholy lift after i clicked the submit order button, ha ha.  So, let's introduce my new friend.  These are the Nine West Galen, from their "Boutique 9" collection.  I can't wait to rock these with a cute skirt or even some jeans. I love the wood heel and the buckle detail.  They are pure heaven.   I…

The Heel Story

Fashionable
Shoes! Shoes! and More Shoes! Ok.. So I had heard about the DSquared fashion show where the models took off their shoes because the heels were ridiculously high and I laughed because I thought of how on America's Next Top Model Tyra Banks is always talking about the walk and gives the girls the craziest walking contest. Sometimes in 5 inch heels with a 2 inch platform a size too small, so I guess Dan & Dan watched those episodes. Anyshoe, at that same fashion show the lightning bolt heel made its debut. And I love it!! Absolutely FAB! I would so rock these if they were more in my price range! The detailing is just how I like it. A little bit of Wow to surprise people. So keeping…

Flashback: Balenciaga Lego Shoes

Flashback: Balenciaga Lego Shoes

Fashionable
This shoe made its debut at the Balenciaga Fall/Spring fashion week 2007. I got the idea to feature a "flashback" shoe from talking to my bestest when I told her I was doing shoe research for my blog, LOL. I don't know the official name of this show, so we'll just say the LEGO shoe. Worn here with this ugly grey sock, they are just wrong, wrong, WRONG! Why would you wear this gorgeous shoe with with track pants and sweat socks? The were worn in a much better fashion by Beyonce at the American Music Awards a few months ago. Her jeans are awesome, the jacket tight, and she wore the shoes perfectly. It's all in the detailing, and she shows how a shoe can really pull an outfit…

How can you write, but you don’t read?

Lifestyle
I came across this article about how 2008 was proclaimed the year of reading. In the article they said  Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) has never read a book, but yet she writes them.  How does that really work? What about her kids? I think this occurs a lot today. Hell, we have a lot of "authors" who do not really write their own books. I mean, every time one of these "tell all" books comes out by these former video groupies, do people actually think they wrote them? No, they are more like dictations to a person they sold their story to.  Foolishness! Anyway, the article asks, does reading make you clever? Not necessarily. Reading does stimulate the cortex, and does improve things like: vocabulary grammar spelling writing comprehension reasoning…

HBO’s True Blood

Lifestyle
HBO's new series True Blood stars Anna Paquin and a few other people who i don't know, but so far its pretty good.  It's based on a series of books by Charlaine HarrisI have watched all four episodes and each one has been pleasantly surprising. My friend says that the way they use the metaphor of vampires and humans is reminiscent of blacks and whites after the Civil War with the central idea of assimilation.  She said that every time they say vampires she replaces it with the N word.  Sometimes, it really does seem interchangeable. I like the show because, well, I just like it.  I don't have a thing for vamps because I hated Buffy the Vampire Slayer so it can't be inherent.  True Blood takes place in…

GREYS!!!

Lifestyle
I don't know about anyone else, but I am extremely excited about the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy tomorrow night. Ugly Betty too, but Grey's is my little addiction, even though I probably won't watch it during the actual airing due to my wonderful Digital Video Recorder, but it will bring great joy in knowing that it will be there. I also discovered last night was the premiere of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. I was pleasantly surprised to see my DVR record light on, and checked to see what it was. I was delighted. This is the good thing about fall! I tried to get a countdown to put in here, but was unsuccessful, but oh well. Viva La Grey's!! I can't wait to see what develops between…

Essential Boot

Fashionable
Wellington Boots. I didn't even know what they were called, I used to refer to them as rain boots, but now that I know their name I can talk about them.   I used to hate these boots.  They came out of nowhere and then they  were everywhere in the blink of an eye.  But now, after so many bouts with cold wet feet, I see the essentialness of them and have said I can't wait to find myself a pair.  I can't believe I made such a drastic turn around, the next thing you know I'll be saying how the UGG boot is cool and cute (someone stop me if I ever get there, but you get my drift). My dilemma is that each and every time I find…

Nine West, Elegy.

Remember back when Tim Allen had that show Home Improvement and his show inside the show was called "Tool Time?" And Al was his co-star.  I never watch Home Improvement on Nick @ Nite because I'm upset they don't show A Different World but I do sometimes watch Family Matters... and maybe Roseanne.  I love  Roseanne's family's white trash-ness. She loves it.  I love it because that was a real white family from the midwest-they weren't all wholesome or cheesy.  They had real fights and real issues. Granted some characters were extremes (Sandra Bernhardt's Nancy) but they dealt with real personalities in my opinion. I don't want to bore you with memories of my Nick @ Nite adventures, I wanted to show the world my newest shoe obsession.  In case…

Broadway Revival

Lifestyle
So yesterday while I flipping through my September issue of Essence magazine while working out, I came across a one-page article about India Aire starring in a revival of Ntozake Shange's "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf." I was so thrilled I damn near fell off the machine.  I personally have not read the book, but I have heard how inspiriting it is, and what I have read from Ntozake I have loved.  She is phenomenal.  I think I am going to grab a copy of this book from amazon the next time I purchase a book.  I have to keep an eye on this production because I absolutely  have to see this. I really wanted to catch the all black revival of Cat…

Granny’s Got a Gun!

Lifestyle
Granny ain't no joke!! I swear my grandmother would do something like this! This here is Leda Smith of Point Marion, PA and she don't play. Leda was home chilling, probably watching reruns of Golden Girls on Lifetime or Judge Judy when someone broke into her house. So Leda went and got her gun(a .22 caliber revolver), which she had because there had been a string of robberies in her area, and busted that two-bit burglar. Wait! It doesn't stop there! She then forced HIM to call the police while she kept him in her sights! She said, "I said, 'what are you doing in my house?' He just kept saying he didn't do it." Yeah, you didn't do it, but yet you're here underneath the head of my gun.…
